About this workshop

NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access), is a free and open source screen reader written in Python.

Japanese NVDA community has been developed domestic enhancements for Japanese language with the cooperations of Japanese Python community since 2010.

NV Access Inc. started a project to enhance East-Asia language support. However, assistive technologies which handle multi-byte characters, such as Chinese, Korean and Japanese, is not only complicated, but also deeply dependent on cultures. We believe we should have more opportunities for understanding.

Another important issue is sustainability of the NVDA project. NVDA Japanese Team, a non-profit organization of developers and users of NVDA in Japan, is seeking for raising money to support East-Asia language project from Japan. For the purpose, communities and organizations for visual disability in Japan should understand the development and spread of NVDA in the world.

NVDA Japanese Team is very happy that Mr. Michael Curran (NV Access Limited, Australia) and Dr. Jerry Wang and Aaron Wu (Taiwan Digital Talking Books Association) accepted our invitation to visit Japan for this purpose.

Mr. Hiroshi Kawamura (Past President, DAISY Consortium) will also give valuable advices to the NVDA community.

We would like to express a hearty welcome to all who are interested in NVDA, accessibility, screen reader, speech synthesizer, braille display, open standards, and inclusive development.

Takuya Nishimoto, Chair of NVDA Workshop in Japan.
